There are numerous image manipulation tools on the web that let you perform many fun tasks on your images. You can, for example, generate the images of children two people would have. Offering a similarly amusing service is In20Years.

In20Years is an image manipulation website, which is free to use. On the site you can upload the image of your face and see what they will look like in 20 years’ time. The results are often very amusing. Advanced image processing algorithms produce some entertaining results.

We can select our gender, the time we want to forward to (either 20 or 30 years), and whether or not we want to add the ‘drug addict’ effect.

The site features a simple interface with the homepage containing our selectable controls. After selecting an image, we wait for it to upload and process. When we see our results, we can share them to various networks through In20Years.

Features:

  • Simple user interface.
  • Unique idea.
  • Detects face accurately.
  • Provides us with a great way to have fun with our and our friends’ pictures.

Taking 3D Photographs: Getting started in 3D photography is easy. Just take two side-by-side photographsstart3d approximately eye distance apart with your normal camera. It’s very important not to move the camera too much in between the two shots – for best results, we suggest you move only about an inch per four feet of distance to the subject (2cm per meter of distance to the subject). Make sure both of your photographs are in focus and well lit. You should end up with two .JPG files. If necessary, rotate them to be the right way up.

Creating Albums: After registering, go to your albums page (click on ‘My albums’), and click on the button that says ‘Create Album’. Fill out the title for the album and choose whether it will be public (viewable by anyone) or private (viewable only by yourself and people you share it with) and click the ‘Create album’ button to continue.

Uploading Photographs: Upload the JPG taken from the view of your left eye in the left column, and the JPG taken from the view of your right eye in the right column. Click the ‘Upload’ button and wait for the upload to complete. Fuji REAL 3D users should change the setting to upload MPO files; each MPO file contains two pictures.

Making a Piku-Piku: That’s it! Your photographs are being turned into ‘Piku-Piku’, an exciting new way to experience 3D photographs without glasses. A thumbnail will appear on your album page when it’s done, usually in about 10 seconds.

  • Create 3D photos easily.
  • Browse through hundreds of public 3D photos.
  • Rate, comment and embed 3D photos on the web.
  • Use the slider to change the depth of any photo.
  • The service is free while in Beta.

Stereograms (also known as Magic-Eye), a new way of looking at the world. Hi and welcome to the wonderful world ofimage_thumb11 Stereograms!

I remember perfectly the moment when I saw my first stereogram. I’ve been starring at my PC monitor for about one hour without seeing anything, my eyes were hurting and I was afraid to blink not to lose the “magic moment”. Finally, in the end, I saw the magic, and it was worth the effort. I never believed that something like this was possible simply by looking at a picture. In deed you can say you have a magic eye ;-)

For those of you that have trouble seeing magic eye images there are a couple of pointers at the end of How Stereograms work page.

You can also Build your own Magic Eye 3D Stereogram based on a mask or a text at your choice. You realy need to try the new text stereogram generation, I’ve parameterized a bit the algorithm and now it gives easier to read text stereograms. Also, hopefully to come – autostereograms, something easier to see.

  • Select a mask and pattern of your choice to generate the stereogram.
  • Create 3D text based stereogram so you can send secret messages.
  • Change the font type and size.
  • Select from more than 200 patterns and 200 masks.
  • You can also upload your own pattern.
  • View and comment on different stereograms generated by other users.
  • Print a poster with your created stereogram

It’s difficult to understand why Google didn’t develop an online photo editor: it would’ve integrated with Picasa Web Albums, Google picnikDocs and other Google services. Right now, Picasa Web Albums is just an online extension of Picasa, a popular software that lets you manage your photos. Unlike Picasa Web Albums, most Google services work online and don’t require additional applications.

Instead of migrating Picasa online, Google acquired Picnik, an online photo editor that already integrates with Picasa Web Albums and many other photo services.

“Today, we’re excited to announce that Google has acquired Picnik, one of the first sites to bring photo editing to the cloud. Using Picnik, you can crop, do touch-ups and add cool effects to your photos, all without leaving your web browser,” mentions Google’s blog.
Picnik will not be discontinued and Google promises that the service will continue to support all the existing partners, but I suspect that Flickr will no longer use it as the default photo editor.
